Holly Hunter was an American actress, who gained fame for the films Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. Holly Hunter was awarded numerous prizes and awards, among them an Oscar for her movie Piano. The talented actress began her acting career in the theatre through a variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway projects. From the time she was a child she's been passionate in the field of acting. She played Helen Keller as a fifth-grade student in a school production. Mumps caused her to be deaf and blind in one ear. But she did not allow this hinder her progress as an actor. While in college, she took classes in theatre and then moved from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to New York City in pursuit of her dreams. Hunter was trapped in the elevator of the playwright Beth Henley when she met her. They worked together to write Broadway Crimes of the Heart that marked the debut of Hunter on Broadway. Following her move from Los Angeles she tried to get film roles and bagged the role of a co-star on Swing Shift. She has since appeared in several movies, television shows as well as movies throughout the span of her 30-year career. Holly Hunter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and she also received the Women in Film Lucy Award.
